Qumulo’s File Data Platform: Consistent File Data Management Everywhere – Now on AWS Outposts

Authored by:

At Qumulo we give enterprise organizations choices on how to manage and leverage their file data. That is why our software-defined file data platform supports both on-prem and multicloud environments using multiple protocols and API-first, for both cloud-native and existing applications all on a single file data platform.

But what if data regulations, residency requirements, or latency sensitivities limit your workloads to your data center on prem? Now there is another choice for high-performance computing: Qumulo’s file data platform seamlessly integrates with AWS Outposts.

Providing A Truly Consistent Hybrid Experience
AWS Outposts is a fully managed service that offers customers the same AWS hardware infrastructure, services, APIs, and tools that are used in the public cloud, to build and run their applications on prem. Qumulo’s file data platform complements AWS Outposts by providing the same powerful file data experience we built to run on AWS with AWS Outposts. With Qumulo’s file data platform running seamlessly on AWS Outposts, organizations can use their existing applications and attach cloud services from AWS to unstructured data, store file data securely, and manage petabyte-scale workloads.

Qumulo is AWS Outposts Service Ready
AWS Outposts extends AWS infrastructure, services, and tools to virtually any data center, co-location space, or on-prem facility and includes compute (EC2) and block storage resources (EBS) on a pre-configured rack. Qumulo is an AWS Advanced Technology Partner and the premier, fully supported and integrated file system for AWS Outposts; in fact, we have one of the first file systems to achieve the AWS Outposts Service Ready designation.“ Achieving AWS Outposts Service Ready status differentiates Qumulo as an Advanced Tier AWS Partner Network (APN) member with a product fully validated on AWS Outposts. AWS Service Ready Partners have demonstrated success building products integrated with AWS services, helping AWS customers evaluate and use their technology productively, at scale and with varying levels of complexity.

In short, Qumulo’s file data platform functions exactly the same way on AWS Outposts as it does on AWS. You can connect your applications and cloud services to Qumulo’s file data platform on AWS Outposts and through our cloud-native APIs and enjoy consistent file data management and storage everywhere.

Drive More Value from Your File Data at Scale
Running Qumulo on AWS Outposts provides a hybrid cloud solution ideal for workloads that require low latency access to on-prem systems, local data processing, or local data storage such as factory floor processes, real-time patient diagnosis, medical imaging, content creation and media streaming. If your business operates in a highly regulated industry, or is located in a country with data residency requirements, or where there is no AWS region, then the managed AWS Outposts service can extend AWS cloud-native services to your environment. You can take advantage of the innovations of the public cloud, or on prem in your private cloud, and drive more value from your data, at petabyte scale, with Qumulo on AWS Outposts.

Why Qumulo for Hybrid Cloud?
Running Qumulo’s file data platform on AWS Outposts provides the same advantages as running our file data platform in any hybrid cloud scenario. Because AWS Outposts includes raw block storage but not a file system, users might be tempted to install a server operating system such as Windows Server and format the EBS volume as NTFS storage. However, in this scenario, they would face the same challenges as they would in a traditional on-prem scenario. Windows Server cannot manage very large data volumes, does not scale out, does not offer enhanced cross-protocol management features or real-time data analytics—all of which can be addressed by running Qumulo’s file data platform on AWS Outposts.

If your organization has satellite locations or latency sensitivities (e.g. production facilities, warehouses, remote offices) you can deploy AWS Outposts and run file-intensive applications and workflows using Qumulo’s file data platform locally. This enables you to integrate with AWS services such as Sagemaker, Rekognition, and IoT Greengrass to help drive your AI/ML and IoT initiatives.

Seamless Integration Across Data Centers, AWS Outposts & AWS
Now organizations can choose how to manage their file data on prem or on AWS to leverage their applications or services. Qumulo for AWS Outposts provides users with real-time data analytics, a robust API to migrate, create, and manage unstructured file data at petabyte scale, integrate that data easily into their workflows, and leverage the agility, breadth of services, and pace of innovation that AWS provides.
