Partner

This biotechnology company has been a Qumulo customer since 2021, originally deploying on-premises before turning to the cloud two years ago to house a growing cold sequencing archive rather than expand its data center footprint. They selected Cloud Native Qumulo for its cost, rapid deployment, and scalability. Qumulo won the initial cloud deal with a 250 TB requirement. The key to closing the cloud deal was Qumulo’s aggressive roadmap for CNQ on AWS features and performance.

Two years later, the environment has expanded as planned. In October, they added another 200 TB and adopted Qumulo Cloud Data Fabric to simplify connectivity between on-premises and cloud datasets. What began as an economical, compliant repository for archived sequencing data has evolved into a living resource: researchers can now tap years of historical information in real time, directly alongside high-performance next-generation sequencing workflows, accelerating analysis and increasing the long-term value of the data.

The Solution

The biotechnology company chose to deploy Cloud Native Qumulo that leverages EC2, EBS, and S3 to deliver an ideal cloud storage solution for its AI-driven antibody drug discovery workflows.

Why Qumulo?

  • Simple deployment and straightforward data migration

  • Elastic, cloud-native scalability

  • Strong return on cloud investment

  • Unified workflows across on-premises and AWS environments

Results

  • Cost-effective, scalable storage supporting current workflows and future growth.

  • Unified approximately 1.5 PB of genomics data across on-premises and AWS environments.

  • Seamless hybrid workflows for next-generation sequencing

  • Reliable performance for demanding genomics workloads

  • Avoided at least one major data center storage expansion by extending genomics workloads into AWS.

  • Scaled cloud storage nearly 3x since the initial deployment.

  • Enabled real-time access to over 14 years of historical sequencing data.
