Qumulo Named a Rising Storage Vendor For Life Sciences

Authored by:

Learn why Qumulo is considered one of the top organizations and how we help life sciences companies better manage their data and supercharge data storage

Technology analyst and research firm, Data Center Intelligence Group (DCIG), recently named Qumulo as one of their rising vendors in the life sciences field for 2022 in their most recent report. The annual report assesses candidates based on six criteria and found that Qumulo landed in a sweet spot in the life sciences market.

Why Qumulo was named a rising vendor

Qumulo stood out in three of the categories assessed by DCIG in their report.

Simple global hybrid cloud

Because we’re a software-defined solution, Qumulo has the flexibility to easily operate across on-prem, edge, or the multi-cloud. This allows your team to choose the deployment platform that is right for your workload and support the data and application without refactoring applications, reconfiguring infrastructure, or recreating your workflows. Also, you won’t have to shift hardware vendors or set up a complex data migration, making it easier to get started with your existing tech stack.

Automation and workflow integration

When it comes to achieving simplicity, automation is key. Our comprehensive API offerings make it possible to effortlessly integrate Qumulo into your workflow, regardless of data pipeline complexity. We work seamlessly as part of your application workflow to help simplify projects in genomics and image processing.

Real-time analytics and visibility

When you produce a lot of data, you need to be able to quickly see what’s going on, especially if you’re experiencing problems or need to monitor throughput.

This is a huge problem when you have petabytes of data and no lense to inform you how your data is created, stored, and used. But Qumulo makes it easy. In Qumulo, you get real-time visibility in a single comprehensive dashboard that instantly shows you all the data about your data. With Qumulo, you can discover access and security issues, see activity and usage patterns, and understand how your data is being used.

More ways that Qumulo helps life sciences organizations

Along with the features highlighted in the report, Qumulo is designed to help manage many of the other challenges experienced by life science companies.

A wide variety of data and unpredictable workloads

There is no typical kind of data in life sciences. It could be image files one day and sequencing data the next. This means clinicians and researchers could be dealing with files ranging from a few kilobytes to 50 gigabytes, producing as much as 1 TB of data per experiment.

This calls for a system that’s flexible enough to manage and store the variety of data produced. Life sciences workloads can be unpredictable from one day to the next, especially considering one day it could be thousands of smaller files and the next hundreds of much, much larger files.

Qumulo Core is built for challenges like this. It is designed to help organizations break away from legacy systems that were designed for the kinds of data life sciences produced 20 years ago. Qumulo handles the lack of consistency, both in file size and workload, to reduce the struggle in life sciences.

Qumulo core is built with a single file system designed to handle everything from the smallest bits of data to your largest, across a variety of access patterns (like transactional or sequential).

On-demand scalability

With unpredictable workloads, comes the need to scale on the fly. If you’re taking high resolution images through a microscope and you suddenly start capturing unexpected data, the last thing you want to worry about is whether or not you’re going to be able to store it all just as things start getting good.

Qumulo Core delivers unmatched scalability, offering up clusters that can handle up to 1,000 nodes and storage north of 360 petabytes (we’re serious about scalability).

More cost efficient solution

Large volumes of data used to mean long load times and huge expenses, but it doesn’t have to anymore.

Qumulo helps you save money by working fast, not taking its sweet time to process your data. Not only can you get insights quickly (which saves both time and money), you’re also not forced to use a specific hardware or store your data in a specific location. Qumulo is a software-defined solution that can be deployed anywhere you work, regardless of who provides the underlying technology. We work with all the major players, so you can avoid issues around vendor lock-in and find the solution that works best for your business.
