Why are organizations using file storage in the cloud?

The answer is speed of innovation. Modern businesses are being urgently challenged to leverage data to create new products and business models.

Companies are moving workloads to the cloud so they can be flexible and agile in how they leverage the ever-increasing amount of file data. Having this data in the cloud ensures that it is usable and readily accessible to native cloud services such as artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) and offers unlimited compute and storage on-demand. It is anticipated that, given the recent increase in remote workers, cloud strategies will accelerate even more rapidly than previously expected to enable individuals access to this data, regardless of how large the dataset, or where they are located.

IT organizations are being asked to not only move data to the cloud, but to also deliver on organizational mandates for data protection, retention, and security. The challenge is, how do you seamlessly move and manage this file data across these various environments while maintaining security, data protection, accessibility, and minimizing costs? If that weren’t challenging enough, there is also the need for visibility into the file data and services provided in the cloud.

Qumulo makes it simple to consolidate your unstructured data with a single solution that spans both on-prem and the cloud, and provides real-time data visibility, scalability, automation, and ease-of-use regardless of location to meet your performance, processing, and data retention requirements.

Qumulo runs the same file software and services on-prem and in multiple clouds. Spin-up a cloud instance when you are ready, replicate your content, and you are now running in the cloud! It’s that easy. No reconfiguring applications, no retraining users, no rewriting API integration scripts. We make the transition seamless.

Qumulo offers a flexible deployment model, so you can create an instance based on the capacity and performance needs of your workloads. You can build any size cluster, from GBs to PBs, with the flexibility to add storage on-demand – whether on-prem or in the cloud – and quickly feed data into AI/ML applications. With Qumulo’s integrated, real time analytics, you have visibility when you need to grow or reduce the cluster size making sure your needs are always met.

Qumulo’s software is also perfect for bursting to the cloud, providing immediate access to temporary resources, during those times when you need additional short-term resources.

Qumulo also provides extremely high performance in the cloud. You can render, process and analyze without bottlenecks – giving you leverage and insights from your data quicker.

Qumulo’s simplified management greatly reduces the time that IT system administrators will spend managing their storage. Qumulo’s RESTful APIs enable automation of a variety of administrative yet important tasks such as deploying, tearing down, expanding, shrinking, modifying, and setting permissions on the Qumulo cluster, without having to manually interface with the Qumulo system.
Qumulo enables you to have confidence in your cloud services with enterprise-proven features you need in the cloud: Cross-Protocol Permissions (XPP), snapshots, quotas, replication, and mixed protocol support. Replication creates a secondary copy to protect against data loss across a zone or region. Snapshots give the option to rollback to point-in-time copies.

One of the most important things to consider in any deployment is how to deal with environments that have both Windows and macOS (SMB) and Unix/Linux (NFS) clients accessing the data at once. Having to manually ensure no one overwrites someone else’s data or limiting who can use what based on the type of operating system they have is less than optimal. Qumulo provides automatic mixed protocol support with cross-protocol permissions (XPP), ensuring your users can access the data when and where they need it.

Qumulo gives organizations the flexibility, performance, scale, and analytics they need to gain insight from the petabytes of data, regardless of location.
