Qumulo DataBytes: 32% of Orgs Use Cloud to Boost Data Analysis, 86% Are Interested in Doing So

Authored by:

Based on the ESG Research Survey conducted in partnership with Qumulo, Hybrid Cloud Trends and the Role of Active Unstructured Data in January 2020, 32% of organizations use the cloud to boost their data analysis, 86% are interested in doing so. Qumulo can help.

It should come as no surprise that organizations have long used data analytics to obtain valuable customer insights and help influence their company’s strategy. What is new is the volume and variety of data organizations have been able to gather. The issue now is not how to get the data (i.e., “I need to analyze my business”) but how to efficiently and effectively, on an on-going basis, analyze massive amounts of customer data (i.e., “I have to accelerate innovation and to optimize business investments”).

Alongside this recent explosion in customer and business data has been the democratization of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) applications. Having the ability to use sophisticated analytical applications to gain insights from customer and business data provides immediate, deeper insights into customers, competition and the overall business environment. These rapid and deeper insights are giving companies a competitive advantage.

Organizations have recognized that having this ever-increasing amount of file data in the cloud – making it be usable and readily accessible to native cloud services such as AI and ML – makes solid business sense. The cloud also offers access to elastic resources so organizations can use only what they need when they need it. For many, the reality is that enterprise file data today lives only on-prem. The challenge is, how do you move your file data to the cloud (and back), and manage this in a cost-effective and efficient way.

Qumulo makes it simple to consolidate your unstructured data with a single solution that runs both on-prem and/or in the cloud. Our hybrid file software provides real-time data visibility, scalability, automation, and ease-of-use regardless of location to meet your performance, processing, and data retention requirements. This lets our users focus their efforts entirely on outcomes, not infrastructure. Indeed, while cloud services can be extraordinarily valuable, they are not easily accessible unless your data exists within the cloud service you want to leverage.

These cloud-based serverless offerings allow users to get the benefit of the latest AI and ML capabilities without managing or even spinning up compute clusters. Qumulo’s file system runs the same file software and services on-prem and in multiple clouds. Spin-up a cloud instance when you’re ready, replicate your content, and you are now running in the cloud! It’s that easy. No reconfiguring applications, no retraining users, no rewriting API integration scripts. We make the transition seamless.

Qumulo also offers a flexible deployment model, so you can create an instance based on the specific capacity and performance needs of your workloads. You can build any size cluster, from GBs to PBs, with the flexibility to add storage on-demand – whether on-prem or in the cloud – and quickly feed data into AI/ML applications. Further, with Qumulo’s integrated, real-time analytics, you have visibility when you need to grow or reduce the cluster size making sure your needs are always met.

IT organizations are being asked to not only move data to the cloud, but to also deliver on organizational mandates for data protection, retention, and security. The challenge is, how do you seamlessly move and manage this file data across these various environments while maintaining security, data protection, accessibility, and minimizing costs? If that weren’t challenging enough, there is also the need for visibility into the file data and services provided in the cloud.

Even if you’re not ready to move to the cloud right now, you should future-proof your business by choosing a cloud-compatible option. Using a cloud-native, enterprise file system like Qumulo’s allows users to span these environments, and locate file data where the service resides — even across cloud providers.

Qumulo makes it simple to consolidate your unstructured data with a single solution that spans both on-prem and the cloud.
